Ductless heat pumps are a great choice in central Texas in two specific applications:

An addition or area not served by existing ductwork: if you are adding on to your home, or converting a garage, attic, or loft to living space, a mini split heat pump is a great choice. Your existing ducted HVAC system is typically difficult to extend to new spaces, and may not have the capacity to handle any new loads. A flexible ductless system does not require ductwork, and the outdoor unit and indoor units connect with a flexible 3" diameter line set.
New construction projects: Because they can be effectively zoned, and because there is no typical ductwork, according to the US Department of Energy ductless mini split systems can be 30% more efficient for both heating and air conditioning.
In the past, it was thought that heat pumps were not effective when outdoor temperatures got colder, but that is NOT the case with our Diakin or Mitsubishi ductless systems. Most often mini-split heat pumps are un-ducted or have limited ducting. They can be single zone (one indoor unit matching up or one outdoor unit), or multi-zone with 2 - 10 indoor units fed from a single outdoor unit. There are a wide range of indoor unit configurations including:
