A/C systems have become increasingly more complicated over the years. They are made up of a series of high voltage (220 VAC) low voltage (24VAC) and high pressure liquid and gas refrigerant circuits. While we recommend that you do some basic diagnostics please leave the more aggressive troubleshooting to trained technicians. We have listed some items below you can check to verify operation.

Heating System Issues

Gas Furnace Troubleshooting Tips

 

  1. Clean or replace air filter
  2. Troubleshoot thermostat problems — replace batteries if necessary
  3. Set thermostat to heat and at a higher temperature than the current room temperature
  4. Check electrical panel for blown fuses or tripped breakers
  5. Make power switch near furnace is flipped on
  6. Check pilot light, relight pilot light if needed ( only on old systems) New system have electronic ignition.
  7. Open all vents and registers
  8. Properly mount and fasten access panels (as a safety mechanism, some furnaces won’t turn on if access panels are not properly installed)


Heat Pump Tips

 

  1. Clean or replace air filter
  2. Troubleshoot thermostat problems — replace batteries if necessary
  3. Set thermostat to heat and at a higher temperature than the current room temperature
  4. Check electrical panel for blown fuses or tripped breakers
  5. Make Breakers on the front of the Air Handler are not tripped.
  6. Check to see if the outside unit is running or iced up.
  7. Open all vents and registers
  8. If its below freezing outside try puting you thermostat into Aux or Emergency heat.

 

Air Conditioning Problems

Tips for Troubleshooting Your HVAC

1. Check filters and replace them (dirty filters are a very common failure point)

2. Check supply and return vents for obstructions.

3. Clear debris around outdoor unit.

4. Make sure thermostat is in proper heating or cooling mode.

5. Replace thermostat batteries.

6. Make sure breakers, switches, and disconnects are in ‘ON’ position.

7. Leave fan on ‘continuous’ setting while waiting for repair service.

8. If the outside unit isn't running your not cooling.
